How to Host a Candle Pouring Party
Theme parties are totally in this year. From paint-and-sips, learning how to make your own wreath, and learning how to make a charcuterie boards, hopeful hosts have a lot of trendy and fun options to choose from in regards to what type of party you would like to throw.
If you and your friends like candles, throwing a candle-pouring party is a great idea, especially if you want to do a unique activity with your close friends and family. Now that you’ve settled on a theme, what all do you need to do to make your candle party a success?
Here are our top tips for throwing an amazing candle pouring party.
1.) Invitations
Every great party starts out with the perfect invite. Luckily for you, there are plenty of options when it comes to creating invitations, depending on how serious you take the party planning process. If you are a more relaxed planner, you can invite your friends through text message or a phone call. If you want to put all of the details in an online forum for ease of communication, you can easily create an invitation page on Facebook or a website like Paperlesspost.
If you want to go a little more formal, you can find beautiful handmade invitation templates on sites like Etsy. Once you order and customize them, you can mail your beautiful invites off to your guests.
2.) Get the Right Supplies
Now that you've invited a fun group of friends and family over for a fun night at your place, you can start securing the ingredients for your candles. There’s a few key supplies you will have to have when pouring candles: soy wax or beeswax, a fragrance of your choice, candle vessels (like mason jars), wooden wicks, wick clips, pouring pitch, and a pot to make a double boiler. In one of our previous blogs, we discussed why it is important to have high quality ingredients when you’re making candles. Poor ingredients can affect your health and how well your self-poured candle burns.
3.) The Right Set Up
Have you ever been to a party where it didn’t have the right "flow?" A poorly planned party might leave your guests more frustrated than relaxed. Appropriate space creates the ambiance for a party. Setting up your party so that everything has a designated area will make sure your guests have enough room to spread out.
You'll need a table set up where your guests can pour their candles - make sure the table is sturdy so they don’t knock over the wax. Make sure you choose a space that you don't mind getting a little dirty. You'll also need to have an area that is designated just for food. The food would need to be away from the candles materials... No one wants to eat candle wax!
4.) Play Some Games
Candle pouring is fun, but what is a party without a few back-up games? If you want to stick with the candle theme for the party, there are a few games you can play that involve candles. Buy a few scented candles and wrap them in dark paper so no one can see the label. Give each of your guests a small piece of paper with a pencil to write down their guesses as to what they think the scent is. You can also have your guests play a game where they guess as many candle flavors in alphabetical order. Whoever gets the either of the answers in these games correct will win prizes.
If all else fails, there's always charades!
Theme parties can be a lot of fun if you throw them the right way. It’s important to send great invitations, make sure you top level supplies to make amazing candles, set up the party to flow well for the guest to make the candles and to eat, and lastly to have fun by any means necessary!
